# 020 Quality is not what you do but how and how well you do

There was a beggar standing unobtrusively in a corner next to a pan shop. A rich man approached him and teasingly asked him “ if I were to offer you two coins – one a 1 rupee and a the other a 5 rupees, which one will you take?” The donor was surprised to hear that the fellow will prefer the 1 rupee coin to the fiver. The man thought the beggar is a fool and spread the word around. Soon their curiosity aroused, people started testing the beggar by offering money in double denominations and were always surprised to find the beggar choosing the lower denomination. One person asked him directly whether he is not being foolish in his behaviour. The beggar smiled and said “Do you think I would have made this much amount of money if I were not choosing the lower denomination amount? People would not have queued up to give me money if I had accepted the 5 rupee coin in the first place. And in any case if I had not acted differently, where is the difference between me and the other ordinary beggars. You know one need be innovative in whatever one does, even if it be begging”

The moral of the story is: You don’t need to always go to a Management School to be innovatively innovative.
