Just the other day we went to a restaurant in a four star hotel for a buffet lunch. The first thing the waiter asks is "would you like to have bottled water or regular water?" This kind of question only reveals the pathetic situation in which a customer is placed in India. It is expected of the restaurant to provide clean and safer drinking water to the customers without their having to ask or specify it. It is the basic requirement for a service provider of this kind to understand. Why would a restaurant ask for a choice in the matter at all is perplexing to me. They need to think of bottled water only if the regular one is perceived to be not safe by the enterprise itself ! In which case serve only bottled water but not charge the customer for it. That is Quality and ISO 9001.
This blog is on matters of Quality that matters ! This is posted by Raghavendran a quality Management Professional. Quality, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder and therefore is subjective and quite difficult to define. But at the same time it is easy to understand since everybody intuitively recognises Quality. Different aspects of Quality are brought out through presentation of simple and common everyday experiences that one comes across in daily life.
