# 049 ATM – an unexpected Hazard!!

Just the other day I withdrew cash from ATM but uncharacteristically held the Receipt in between my lips to count the cash. I was dismayed that the damn paper got stuck firmly on my lower lip and would not easily come off. And when I removed it with a tearing action I was surprised that I had a sharp pain resulting in a searing burn. To my horror the burn is still persisting even after full 2 days of coconut oil, Borolene, Glycerine and what not.

Curious, searched the net only to find that ALL thermal papers used in ATM and other places like bank etc. for receipts do contain a chemical called BPA - short for Bisphenol A, which is harmful to health. And worse, it can get into your system simply by skin contact. FDA of USA has not yet banned the chemical but the day seems to be not very far off as more and more research is being carried out to produce evidence for the ban.

So be careful next time you have to handle a thermal paper - more commonly cited at restaurants & ATMs.

Cashiers, it is an Occupational hazard for you!!
